Hi all! This cute little green glass perfume bottle was amongst an auction lot I won recently. I have seen similar listed as "Victorian" and others "vintage". I'm wondering if you can tell me if it is older or not? Also, what would be on the inside of the bottle, something that the perfume soaked into? It looks like a little puffball or something organic, but I can't see it very well! It is only 2"H. Thanks for any info! Smelling salts, that is. With the remains of a sponge. Late 19th.

See if there is the faintest whiff. Smelling salts seem to last like the Energizer Bunny!

Dark green and dark blue glass are often used, they preserved the salts from the light.

LOL! I once used one made by Yardley to revive a lady who fainted. It was my Grandmother's, and at that time, the bottle was well over 50 years old.

Apparently the lady had never experienced smelling salts before, as she seemed to think I was attacking her! I'm not too sure she believed me when I explained that the stuff in the little bottle was a well-known restorative for ladies with the vapors.

(Grandmother's bottle is yet in my medicine chest and still going strong!)
