Featured What the heck are these things?

Some sort of button? The larger ball is about 1/2" / 13mm across, maybe a bit bigger. I got a handful of them in a lot a while back. Ran it through google lens but didn't find anything.

No way! My first thought was earrings, but I quickly dismissed that because the sphere behind the ear seems like it would be kind of annoying and, well, pointless since it's behind the ear.

Now I feel kinda stupid for not even googling it to see if it was a possibility...lol.

That would be a neat hat pin if you don't want to poke it in your ear.

 

I'm thinking some kind of knob. It depends on whether it twists in tightly or not.

 

But they're ONLY A 1/2"............you should have seen the size of some earrings my Mom used to put in HER ears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She LOVED her jewelry B I G!

I've run into these before. It was a short-lived design. Some were made to be reversible, and some like this were probably just supposed to be easier to fasten. Doubt they were with the round knob.

 

Definitely earrings. You can still buy this design in the cheaper shops where my daughters love to look for clothes and things
