Purple Glass Vase

Discussion in 'Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain' started by Bonnie l Roggensees, Jul 21, 2022.

  1. I would just like to know what this is in terms of a vase or some kind of strange drinking goblet LOL. It's about 6 in tall thick cut glass and purple. Does anybody know who the maker is and how you would describe it in terms of what kind of glass it is....seems more like cut glass.

It looks like blown glass with a molded base, a light amethyst color.
What does the bottom look like? Please show the bottom.
Please click on "Full size" after posting. You can probably still edit your first photo so we can all see it at a glance.

A broad term for this type of vase is "jack in the pulpit".

I think Westmoreland may have made one in this shape but I'm sure others will know.

  4. .

Thank you I couldn't think of the name of the flower that helps a lot and I don't feel so silly checking the pulp it makes sense and I figured it was probably some kind of cut glass Westmoreland or Indiana glass or something thank you

Yes, Westmoreland made that shape in many colors. All that I've seen were marked with the typical W over G on the bottom.

The glass looks "sun purpled" to me. That's when the glass is left in the bright sunlight (like in a front window) and over time it changes the color of the glass due to sunlight reacting with chemicals in the glass. A jack-in-the-pulpit vase refers to any vase that has the back of the rim pulled up to form a type of flower petal. IDK who made it but I'm not getting a Westmoreland vibe at all.

Thanks, TC! Now that I've seen the other examples in the catalog, I think it would be WG. But not being able to see the base, led me astray. And most of my experience with Westmoreland old clear glass vases has been in everything except JIP vases which I do not personally like much. I tend to not buy what I don't like, lol! A bad habit I had to break when I was selling. Still think it's sun purpled, the color is so washed out.

  10. Hi Everyone. Don’t know if I will get a reply but am wondering why I don’t receive any more email articles from antiques.com.
