Hi everybody- I'm uploading photos from several different angles. Also, I found an accompanying note that says it was carved in Povungnituk, Quebec, and shows a hunter with a goose. It says it was recently carved, so I'm guessing it would have been 1961-1963. It doesn't name the artist, but the etching on the bottom looks similar to the one on the wood base that I posted earlier.

Peelopoosie. Pilupusi, etc. are all variations on the Christian name Philip and there were numerous variations in spelling over the years. While there are roughly a dozen artists who were known at one point as Pilupusi (again using all the alternative spellings) only two were from Povungnituk. Pilupusi Putugu (born 1918) and Pilupusi Tukai (born 1910) both of whom are certainly deceased. Both artists are rather obscure and neither one would be worth a premium if we could firm up the attribution. I would leave the piece more or less as is although the recommended treatments are in line with what I would suggest if you really want to refresh the surface. Bear in mind that while you will indeed be fixing up the blemishes you will also destroy what I call the patina of age.
