I am inclined to leave the bead missing and just mention it if you sell. State the fact that it is a tiny bead and in a place not noticeable.

The missing bead is next to the spring ring clasp in the second photo.

Any Jewelry, exactly: you dont want to alert the seller. Also, I have had bad/good/mediocre experiences with all shipment options lately. Cheap or more expensive, they get lost or take forever to arrive either way.
I always try to pack the items I sell as though they could be thrown with, which is usually what happens with them anyway.
I didn t learn my lesson and got another Neiger for 1€ a few weeks ago. It was shipped the same way this one was (without any protection, just an envelope) and this one miraculously survived!
So, I guess you win some, you loose some.
Still sad this one got broken though.

Thank you, ulilwitch, for pointing that out...you might be onto something. I tried to clean it a little and take a better closeup photo, then lightened and increased the contrast. I'm seeing what looks like a little "x" and some other marks, but I'm concerned about cleaning it too much--or should I try to clean off the entire back of the brass piece?

Hm. It's between champleve and cloisonne to my eye.

Gentle clean with a Sunshine can't hurt.

Thank you for the term "champleve". I've heard of it, but had to look it up and it involves vitreous glass powder being fired to melt the glass...this looks more like a thin layer of paint, but I could be wrong.

I would also call it champlevé, because the ridges that separate the colours were cast with the plate, not soldered on.

I have sold a few Neiger pieces but this looks more like their main competitors Brydcka and Altman. Their pieces were said to be such beautiful works of art. I do not see Neiger traits on this, I do see Brydcka though.

More names I've never seen, but my knowledge of European mainland costume is pitiful.

Thank you @Wendy Green for your information about Brydcka & Altman jewelry. I've only found two examples online (maybe the Etsy ones are yours?). I'm in the Upper Midwest USA and have not heard of Brydcka. I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I no longer get notices about my posts. I'm dog sitting for my son & family and couldn't sleep, so started swiping the pages on my cellphone home screen and found a shortcut I'd saved and forgot about for this thread.

Maybe I can sleep now--like my little "grand-doggie" Wally who's sound asleep beside me. Wally-sleeping.jpg
He's an 8-year-old rescue dog who's "slightly incontinent" so has to wear a belly band/doggie diaper. My first day here I let him outside to pee and forgot to take it off . Anyway, back to the necklace--I haven't sold it yet, so will attach a note that it might be Brydcka & Altman. Thank you again for your information.

Thank you @bosko69. I couldn't help laughing about your recommendation for solving Wally's incontinence problem, but he's a teetotaler so he's stuck with belly bands for the rest of his life. He used to wiggle out of them when no one was watching (I felt so sorry for him), but now I think he's used to them like we humans are to our clothes.

Hello, no expert here but I'm wondering that if it looks painted on, then perhaps it is and it is therefore cold painted enamel? I have certainly seen a lot of older pieces described as cold painted enamel online when they are an enamel paint effect like you describe; try searching cold painted enamel brooch and you will see what I mean. Just wanted to put it out there as an idea, and so see what others say. :)

Also this is a stunning piece, very nice find indeed, that would certainly be my find of the day if I had come across it, well done! :shame:

Thank you Eils14, I Googled cold painted enamel brooch and found a couple that have a somewhat similar painted look, but not the champleve technique. I'm away from home for several days, but will take a much closer look at the enamel work when I get home and maybe come to a conclusion one way or the other.
