That looks like an 8-track player, Adam. Popular from the mid 1960s to late 1970s. Brings back memories. They were notorious for not playing properly in cheaper car stereo players. You had to fiddle around with the tape to get it to play right, then you'd hit a bump and have to fiddle some more.

I have a vintage NIB 8-track player, made for installation in a car. I never got around to listing it. Such items can sell, generally to vintage car enthusiasts.

I went to BNOC at Ft Chaffee in 1989. Every car in the Fort Smith area had an 8 track player at that time.

I think that is an old 4-track tape player made by Muntz, but branded Harmony which sold in stores like Woolco, K-mart, etc.

As noted, these players need to be high end early example to be collectable (LEAR - of Lear jet fame made a deck in the mid 60s). Interestingly, 8-tack boombox's seem to have a retro-cult like following . . . a friends 15 year old son is all caught up in these ! A 70s GE. 0e185ef04d6880214b1f8520a89d791d.jpg

Does this hold true for the 4-track players as well?

8 track had superior sound quality....we never saw a lot of 4 track around here....
