1885 Painting in Gold frame

    The painting is signed A. Sadley 1885 But what I am very curious about is the frame. I am not sure if this is the right forum to post it in but figured I would give it a try. Has anyone ever seen a frame like this before? I'm not even sure what you would call the flowers, maybe roses? TIA

    I think that frame is what one would call Art Nouveau. Have had quite a number of them, all very interesting to me as they have all been different. Ownedbybear may be more specific, but the frame represents tree bark wound about with some ivy like critter.

    The frame is gilded gesso. A wood (love the knot holes!) and foliate motif.
