Antique police badge - help with listing please

Our Historical Society purchases items. Someone could mention it to them. Right now we're contemplating a group of painted panels by Peter Hunt. The hang up for us isn't the price - it's the lack of space for something that large.

I had an obsolete badge a few years back that kept getting pulled right after it received the initial bid. I was using all the "approved words", but after the third time I listed it as a buy it now for around $250.00 - 300.00. It was snapped up within an hour or so of listing it & the buyer paid immediately. Everyone happy.

Got it on my watch list - as in watching it climb.

 

I have some real ones but a friend who knows about such things tells me many have been faked because of value.
I'm stunned....no...maybe not...that Gnomeland Insecurity would control something you could get anywhere and/or cut, shape and hammer out of a Coke can.
