Here's a cute old (Italian ?) sculpted bust of a young lady-perhaps a Grand Tour Souvenir. It's 15" tall,27 1/2 Lbs weight, and alabaster. It's signed-'Migone'(maybe Migoiie ?),can't find much on him.Chips to some lace and floral area.Traded this for an old Tonka Fire Truck-my beloved Spouse said-'Bye Truck,Hello Signorina !' Although it could also refer to the name 'Mignon',a female character from an old play.Have to follow this one up,it could be initialed somewhere else or just unsigned (you know these crafty artists !).

It says Migone though. But she is certainly 'mignonne', 'cute' in French.;)

AnyJewelry-She's a cutie.Could Migone be the Italian version ? The Art adventures we go thru.I like your version mignonne better though.

I don't know much Italian, but I don't think so. Lingva Translate thinks mignonne/cute is 'carino' in Italian, which sound good to me.
Lingva doesn't know the English translation of 'Migone', but is convinced the Dutch translation is 'migraine'.

    AnyJewel-Thanks for research
Stracci-Grazie ! She looks a lot better in our pseudo Victorian guest bedroom than the Tonka truck. Can you imagine being a tourist in Naples or Rome in 1880 and lugging this back home ? 27 pounds on trains,steamships,etc-god knows what shipping stuff was like back then.

I know this post is very out of date, but I think the signature says "Migolle", which is an Italian surname. I can't find a scllptor of that name, but I think it is very beautiful and worth more research.

Thanks Valeriek-'Migolle','Mignone','Mignonne',seems to be either a name of an artist or a character from a song/play.I hadn't thought abt this post for a bit.Have to do more internet research on her.
The piece was most likely not expensive when new-a middle of the road souvenir from the 'Tour'.
What we today consider a high-level of skillfully rendered 'realism' would have naturally been considered much more commonplace 150 years ago.Can you imagine walking into a modern-day Crafts Fair and seeing an artist with a table full of these ?!
