Pretty bird! Can’t see the blue too clearly in photos but can see where it is and can imagine it. I’ve got a Yatate too but different type slightly.

oh yeh it does show the blue there. I’ve never seen that. Very cool! Is there a term for that variation of stone?

So it does exist! I love that it’s “petite production”. Half of my ancestors are from Quebec area and I’ve still never been. I’ll have to get up that way someday soon.

Doesn't this bird kind of resemble the Alaskan Blue Booby???? Just my thoughts.........it's partially the FEET that made me think that! BWDIK!:rolleyes:

You may already be familiar with this site explaining yatate, but I found it interesting, particularly this reference to shakudo:
"By this time many craftsmen stopped using brass for yatate production and began using an alloy of copper and gold called "shakudo". Shakudo is a Japanese invention, and has no English equivalent term. New shakudo looks just like copper, but over time the surface turns a beautiful dark purple color, almost black. This is due to the addition of gold. Regular copper would turn green. The coloration, or patina, will come off if you rub it enough, but since shakudo was created with this beautiful patina in mind, it's best left as it is, in its patinated state."

NOW, I have NOT gone 'round the bend, so hear me out please.....After rotating the mark for you, @komokwa, if you're on a Windows computer, and hold down the CTL key and scroll FORWARD, you can enlarge the image.....then look at the back of the "HAT" mark......it looks to me, that I'm now seeing some lettering, albeit NOT very clearly, and very tiny, and you can JUST start to see them in the image I re-posted!! Would/could the MAKER have signed making this Yatate???
