On a happier note, I couldn't be out long yesterday, but got a few things. This is plastic, brass hook. $5.

Here's a group of my recent finds. Not one of these did the seller actually know what the item was! I love that.

An old, maybe antique, Navajo wedding basket, a Navajo blanket, three what I think are Apache wood dolls, and a special Javanese keris that @komokwa and @Any Jewelry gave me lots of interesting info on.

Amen. As I've said early and often, "G-d bless little old ladies who don't know what they've got!" (of course these days I'm periously close to that status myself, or at least old fart-dom. Little has never been one of my problems.)

This was my "find" on Friday. A friend of my mom's had a few prints made of a picture she did of a cat named Fang. Now I need a place to stick my Fang into. The second shot is the best I could get of the black/charcoal squirrel who seems to live in my yard. He's after the same Lawn Lego the deer were - aka acorns. DSCF8865.JPG DSCF8863.JPG

Marko-Just retired a year ago at 71.My and my Wife's Medicare + Med Add-on + Medicare F & G Supplemental + Rx Coverage runs us abt $800 a month (no Dental yet-exploring & Vision is cheap enough out of pocket).
We have no kids (just 2 fur babies). Best find ever was a superb 19th century Aboriginal Western Desert Parrying Shield-it went for 11K at Sotheby's,within 6 months We'd spent 5K on Vet bills, easy come, easy go when it's a loved one. Both cats were healed and we got to enjoy our kitties for another 5 years !
Take care of Yourself, and don't be bashful asking the scrubs questions.
P.S.-Wonder how much Health Care is in the UK.
P.S.S.-Enjoying retirement, poorer but happier-You'll find lots to do.

I think I have something for an auction house, too. Maybe more than one thing....I am in NJ. I think I can weather retirement by selling my finds. Wishing you the best!

U.K. Prescriptions cost about £9-£10 but are free for over 60s and the unemployed and there are some others who are exempt.
I am very grateful I don’t have to pay for consultations X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, Fibroscans, blood tests, etc and my monthly drugs for my PBC. You can pay for operations privately but if you need an operation here you can get it free but there’s often a long wait. Also ambulances often take hours to get to you.

Houseful-Do You in the UK have Medicare payments like we do here in the US ? Here in the States we have basic Medicare (free)-pays hospital & thats pretty much it.It's all the add-ons that cost the $800 (or more) per month. That monthly bill is one of the reasons I'm sitting here drooling over Your finds and not ploughing thru $100 in petrol a week doin' my own pickin.
I do find stuff, but it aint' exactly easy anymore. If I put in 6 to 8 hours of driving and searching I'll find goodies, but how much will the masses of bottom-feeders on Ebay pay for them. This is not the level of quality item Sotheby's or Christies consigns (in my dream life-i surf Chairish & 1stDibs).
I (as a Seller) was caught in the 2007-08 crash-stuff that was generally bringing $50-$200 plummeted to $10-$20.
Friend Marko- With Putin/Ukraine/Oil prices, possible or probable (hopefully minor) increases in 'civil disturbances' in the US,extreme weather,etc,etc-You might to consider cashing-out via auction your 'joolies' sooner than later for liquid cash.
Humans obsession with Tchotchke's may soon be subsumed by other basic needs... hopefully not-because art and beauty are a very real essential to a lot of Us.

You can take out private medical and dental insurance or it may come with your job but I’ve never had anything like that. Most of us just payNational Insurance out of our wages which funds our National Health Service. There’s a lot of pressure on the NHS now though with even more backlogs because of Covid. It’s not a good time to be poorly.

There have always been and always will be people with money. On the rare occasion an estate sale advertises jewelry, people wait in line for hours to get in. I don't do much else besides the jewelry. :) I also have been a dedicated saver with a phenomenal financial advisor who diversified me before the 2008 crash. The one time I didn't listen to him, I regretted it, but it was a small amount. Bought GE at 30, it dropped below 8, now it's 67. Sigh. I also the only one willing to care for my aging uncle for 10 years, and I was his sole heir.
