    Hi all,

Does anyone recognize the sig (Hursch? Hirsch?) and/or what kind of fossil that is?

    Thanks

Think the fossil may be more like the mineral formation called a 'desert rose'.

Yes, for the "fossil"= gypsum crystals.

That's absolutely desert rose, I've got some. Found in Texas but also in the middle east.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Maybe the signature is Hüsch? There might be a "u" with two very light marks above it.

hirsch pottery - Bing images -there is a vessel that look identical with a cork lid that someone called a cookie jar - and there is a listing for similiar wares posted on pintrest

I think it is Peter Hirsch of Rock Brook

You guys never cease to amaze me.

I agree that it's his work . . . I discovered that he perished from mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure from the NYTAL® 100 talc he used in his ceramics, and his widow got 3.5 mil: https://www.levylaw.com/blog/2006/november/nation-s-first-mesothelioma-compensation-verdict/

Makes me wonder how safe it is to have a bunch of vintage and antique pottery when ceramics, clays, and glazes often contain asbestos, lead, silica, and even arsenic. I know the airborne forms are the most dangerous, but still . . .

I also wonder how much Hirsch's pottery has sold or retails for.
