    Hi guys!
I rescued this table and chairs from being destroyed. My daughter just settled into her new house and I was tickled pink she wanted it. I just want to be able to tell her a few things about the history or whatever someone could point out about it to me.

The number on the bottom and seat covers make me think 70’s. The tulips (I think) look like female reproduction organs to me but I’m guessing it’s Dutch inspired? Can you tell me anything about this table? I believe it’s referred to as a trestle table What is the wood? Both ends pulls out. Would that be for extensions? I’ve never seen them extend on the ends like that

Thank you for helping me. I am lost when it comes to furniture. Just loved the look of this guy and couldn’t let it go to the dump. She is contemplating refinishing it in another color but what can ya do? Lol

I think 70s is right. That finish was popular then. I think more Mediterranean than Dutch. Let her refinish it and make it her own. :)

I'd agree on the date: 1970s. It's vaguely Jacobethan Revival, and executed in wide-grained oak. I'm not sure about where you live, so I wouldn't necessarily say the set was Dutch. The decoration may just be decoration.

However, you have a good point about it resembling female genitalia. Its almost uncanny, and now I can't un-see it. Calling Dr. Freud!

At any rate, 'Venus' (classier) or even "Ovarian" dining set would be better than tulip (makes people think of Saarinen, and I took my time before looking at this post for that reason)

Not Dutch. I agree with 70s ovarian.
Didn't even know the style existed, but it is there for everyone to see. You learn something new on Antiquers every single day!:pompous:

I may have posted this before:
In the late 40s my uncle avoided being conscripted to fight against Indonesians in their war of independence, by saying he saw female gentalia in every Rohrschach inkblot in the psychological test. Unfit for service!:hilarious:
My father was never conscripted due to a mistake by the ministery of defense. He didn't tell them.
Both sides of our family were for a peaceful transition to Indonesian independence. They had been active in the resistance against the Nazi occupiers, so they were not about to fight people who wanted to be free themselves.
