I didn t buy the earrings because they were not what I expected. But I came home with this beauty (and some beautiful brooches).
The seller was not sure the brooch was 'en epoque', znd neither was I (those pearls and their findings look off) but I immediately saw it was a good quality piece so I bought it anyway.
It was only when I came home thzt I saw the Unger Brothers stamp.
So, what do you guys think of my latest find? En epoque? Unger Brothers or later fake?
Thank you very much for your reply

The good thing is, you liked it enough to buy it without having seen the mark, so there is no great loss if it isn't a genuine Unger Brothers brooch/pendant.:)
Have you checked if they made this 'lion and maiden' subject?

The brooch pads seem to have been added later, so I don't think that is anything to go by, datewise.

I am not American, so I don't know if this is Unger quality, and I had to look some things up. No doubt our North American joolies can tell you much more.
So far I've read that there is a fake mark with a dot in it, which yours doesn't have.
I can't find any Unger pieces with pearls, which doesn't mean they aren't out there somewhere.

Hello Any Jewelry, thank you very much for your reply.
Yes you are right, I liked it anyway and the price was right so it had to come with me.
Yes, the front and back look to be joined very well and no joints are visible.
I havent found the subject yet, but I thunk it might have started life as a watch fob

Unger fakes also have fake marks.:( The one with the dot is just one fake marks, there are more and probably better.:(

I'm just showing what a legit Unger mark looks like (borrowed from a site I trust.) Is there something about the one on Dessert's brooch that is a problem?

Not that I know, but I don't know all the signs when spotting fake Unger Bros jewellery. When jewellery brands are faked a lot, it is good to be careful, especially when you don't know all the signs. Both Dessert and I are in Europe, so we don't usually come across Unger Bros jewellery, or UB fakes.
    Looks perfect.:)

Still haven't found this design yet, but to be honest: I just like it. Whether it is Unger or not is less important for me as to know if its from the right period.
So my next question would be: IF its a fake, could it still be from 1900-1920 or would these fakes only be made later?

It is very nice, no matter what.

I'm finding quite a few Unger chatelaine/watch chain brooches with a similar configuration, maybe that is what yours is?
Haven't found the same as yours yet.
I imagine it would be later, but let's wait for the others.
Here in Europe period copies would usually not be marked like the original, compare the Pforzheim copies of French Art Nouveau pieces (or in the style of...).

Any Jewelry, thank you very much. I believe these are flemish yes, although the North-france region and the Netherlands made similar-looking designs in this period.
I might post one of my ugly ducklings for a next question in another post

True, the Netherlands would have been my second consideration, more likely Dutch Brabant than north of the rivers. And in general French Flanders had similar jewellery to Belgian Flanders.

They are truly beautiful, and please brag some more, we love seeing jools like that.;)
