Earring makes sense, especially with that reticulation. It'll make a nice pendant.

My eyes have rolled down the damn road.

Anyone who doesn't know that old diamonds were set in silver to enhance them is clueless about antique jewellery.

See also my late 18th C pendant posted here. Rose gold, diamonds, silver. Unmarked.

    And I'm in the UK.

I even edited my comment to modify the time line to first third of 19th century!

OMG. Are those that quick insulted if one communicaties some slight doubts, while the diamonds aren't even tested?

F* eej. Tell me what i said is totally wrong.
Here discussing like most serieous jewelery wasn't marked. Yeah sure :D

BTW, i never said it is not. Just advized to be sutlreby testing which still isn't done.
    Still hope it's real.

And some seem to be able to state this one is real to :) (is it?)

Thank you for all the replies, I'm still gobsmacked. Did wonder if it might be an earring or earring drop but the 'hook' part is fixed at the end? Maybe someone had it soldered. Also I wondered if it might be a drop from a necklace? Tried to get a pic of the bail/hook but it's not very clear. It has some ridges inside the curve not sure what they are.

Yes it was turned into a pendant by soldering the hook:cyclops:
So in can be enjoyed again once the other earring was lost:)

Sorry, you not only communicated some slight doubts:facepalm: but jumped in with these assessment!

For the piece's pic you join to your comment, even with low definition of it, I can say it is NOT THE REAL DEAL:cyclops::D

    Are you sure? For real?

No way. I just gave the arguments where my doubt came from.
Tell me what i said wasn't correct! You can't.

Eej, then telling me i know nothing about antiques? As said US antiques? :)
US antiques in the early days came from europe as US hardly made 'antiques' then. What US antiques? 300 years at max?
I own an axe which is 2500 years older then the US. :D And many more objects older then the US.

I respect everyones knowledge. Don't disrespect mine!
I only had some doubts, questions, and argumented them which is learnfull for everyone, isn't it? What a forum is for?
Never said it couldn't be the real deal.
Never said (never insulted) someone told sh*. Just doubts.

I'm ready with this now. Excuses if someone felt offended as that was not my goal.
    Don't disrespect me anymore please.

I surely won't question your knowledge about ancient axes! Just your ability to identify antique jewellery:p
I'm conscient of my limited knowledge on a lot of antique categories:oops: that's why I let those who know comment and identify those, and learn from that.
We have on Antiquers a bunch of very keen collectors of antique jewellery, with sharp eye and vast knowledge. I agree with you that testing is the best way to formally identify stones, but you always can run out some obvious simulants from good enough pics:pompous:

Do i state different then?? Did i say i was expert or something? Did i say my words were the only truth? Tell me where?

What's your role in this? You weren't part of the conversation. Oil on the fire?

Oh good grief. Another one for my ignore list.

Anyhow, back to the earring. It might have been fixed on to another ring with the ear wire, if that makes sense. It could do with a gentle clean. I'd probably risk ultrasound, and white vinegar would do no harm.

Thanks for the clear message. Put you on mine right away. :D
Congrats. Your have the honor to be the first one.

    For you too the questions.
Tell me what i said wasn't correct! Did i decline the determination somewhere?? Did i say i was expert or something? Did i say my words were the only truth? Tell me. Make your words hard if you try to trip me.

Or again no more then oil on the fire? As you weren't part of the original conversation either.

    For information..

Ha for the list;) I surely won't risk to "disrespect" this new member anymore:smug:

For the cleaning, ultrasound is highly dangerous for the foil under the stones, as is any dipping:nailbiting: if settings aren't tight enough, damp will go through and leave the stones looking dull or greyish from the oxydation of the underneath foil!

A soft bristles brush with tiny amount of silver polish allowed to dry before using it will make the silver shine again while letting the recesses darker for contrast.

Oh, that's a point, I'd forgotten the foil. I'd do white vinegar on a cotton bud gently over the stones.

When I started reading this thread, I also began to hit the 'quote' button. I don't know how many quotes I collected.

Anyway, ditch the quotes. I'm with our dear bug lady, who has probably forgotten more about 18th and 19th century jewellery than many on this forum will ever know. And she doesn't forget much.:joyful:
