The story from the family that was passed down was that they were purchased overseas maybe Italy and called a wine jug. They are pottery clay and about a foot tall and 6-7 inches in diameter.

I am looking for where they came from and age. Family stories are fun to hear, but not always fact. :hilarious:

Very nice. I love the one with the concentric swirls, it has an ancient look.
My guess is Eastern Mediterranean, but it could be Italy.

Those racks are for jugs with a round or pointed base, like Greek some amphora or pithoi.

To me ceramics always look more ancient when they have swirls. Like this Chinese Neolithic pot:

Or this one from Croatia, Neolithic Danilo culture:

Me too! That one has more of the paint/color visible on it. I like to imagine who used it, was it special to them, or just an object to used and throw away ...

    Hi,
Back in the early 1970s there was a huge store of these iron stands being made.. I bought several. Bought several "antique" amphora to fit in them. One amphora I bought turned out to be 5th century Greek. The others were just terracotta replicas made in Italy. It was funny that the real one looked brand new and the others looked like they were centuries old. They were just gorgeous looking decor at the time.
