    Hi all,

Is this something fit for the furnace or an antique piece worth restoring? Also, is that a carved griffin? Thanks

I think restoration would be a job and a half.......and not worth it....
but it's a nice table and maybe 100 Years old..

I think it's really neat and would make a fun project, or resell, but not the furnace !!! Strip it down and go from there ..... I bet that would be really pretty glued up and refinished , or painted jet black..........

Think Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" and that putrid yellow paint someone slapped on that poor table. :cat:

"Wallpaper" always makes me think of Oscar Wilde's last words.

Interesting color choice. Had more of a shabby chic teal or one of the blues in mind.

So I ended up buying this table. Couldn't resist as the already cheap price of $12 was cut in half due to a color tag sale in the thrift store. So I'm starting with a mere $6 into it before an amateur resto. Here's a pic of numbers and something etched on the bottom; perhaps someone will recognize them and be able to ID the maker.

    Hi all,

This update of the simple resto done to that drab yellow table has been a long time coming . . .

I wanted to strip the table down and give it a high gloss, deep black finish, but I gave a local artist and decorator the green light to doctor it up as she saw fit. The price was very reasonable, and her choice of powdered flat/matte black spray and distressing works for me. I'm curious what you all think.

I'm considering putting cloth, glass, or some kind of protective cover on top. Any suggestions? Unfortunately, the ugly carpet has to stay for now.

    Thanks for looking in . . .

Hi,at first glance and to be very honest I don’t like what she did very much at all (sorry,I now actually prefer the previous look) It looked much more ‘honest’ previously. I think the table had some potential (but restoration cost would’ve been high and maybe unjustified) Obviously with these things it’s very much up to personal preference and likes. I do think your original idea was better (in my opinion)

I don't hate it. More interesting than all the shabby white treatments we see. With that yellow base coat, I would have been more inclined to use blue or purple (opposites on the color wheel).
