Featured Another chest / trunk

Oak I think, really heavy, double lids with a rigid centre piece, big black hinges and hasps with two side carry handles.
Only around 12 inches high but three times wider than a normal flat top sea chest.
Two man lift.
The design of the hinges makes me think Spanish.

 

Very sturdy, too heavy for carting around trying to sell it at fairs.
It had a TV stood on it with a safe behind the TV.
Its impossible to lift on my own because the handles are too wide apart, I'd have to be 7 feet tall to get my arms around it.

 

Safe was empty and open, one of those big old ones with all the big locks and handles but a back like cardboard, LOL

 

I can't see this going under a bed, the maid would break her back trying to move it even when empty.
I've not seen anything similar, (yet)

 

I appreciate it aint antique,

I'll examine the base in a couple of days, the previous owner now deceased was a saturation diver and may have brought it home in the 60's before he retired, he worked in South America, Middle East and Southern Europe among other places.

I've not seen anything like this over here.

It came from the same estate as the campaign chest I posted earlier.

 

I don't know his age, 70'-80's I presume.

I have a friend who recently retired as a sat diver, he used to spend up to 40 days in a diving bell and even weld under water.

His surname was Bell too, so a very appropriate occupation.

Its a very dangerous job and well paid.
With this area being a large seaport we have quite a lot of people in the diving industry.

We even have a Hyperbaric chamber unit just around the corner at my local hospital, choppers regularly fly in at any time of the day or night with people suffering the Bends.
