I came across this ornate wood sculpture of what appears to be a donkey taking a siesta? 6" tall from base to top of sombrero. The bust is attached to the base with a nail and screw. Looks like a book end however it is not heavy. Half of the hat was cracked off and repaired. 20190107_132954.jpg 20190107_133006.jpg 20190107_133033.jpg 20190107_133045.jpg

I don't believe it to be from a famous artist as there are no markings of the sort, but more of a folk art piece.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

I think it is a man taking a siesta.

Since when do donkeys wear hats? That's a man taking a nap.

Oh I see you said not heavy, so not a bookend.
    Still, a man. :)

Donkeys in the Mediterranean wear hats.;) But this is definitely a man, a single bookend dreaming of his partner.

Don't the hats for donkeys have holes for the ears to stick out?

How the heck did I see a donkey and not a man?? Too many cervezas, i think?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Probably it was intended to be a bookend but whoever made it did not realize that it needed to be heavier in order to work correctly. So maybe either homemade or a cheaper tourist piece, commercially made?
