Hi everyone. I was hoping to get some information about this lamp. I don't have much on it. And I won't be able to get any new pics for a few days. I hope these will do for now. It's all very heavy metal. The shade is glass and metal. There are no markings that we can see. Thanks for any help at all.

It is a nice lamp... I'm wondering whether the cord is safe, though. At least you know the lamp is old!

Thanks. They're leaving it unplugged now.

I don't see it as heavy metal--hard rock maybe. It's rather nice, though. Pre-war certainly, but I don't know about the maker.

Sorry to bring it up again, but does anyone recognize the figure on this lamp? Thanks for any ideas.

OK, so the horns seem to back your Heavy Metal theory, fine! :)
But no, really, the face is pretty much standard for this type of decoration (which is itself pretty much standard), not meant to be portraiture, and it is quite crisp and unmolested by overpolishers, which is always good. It is a nice lamp, but the part that really sets it apart is the glass shade.

Possibly Selene/Luna, goddess of the Moon? I think there was a different goddess often on cameos that had a crescent moon in her hair. Paging @Bronwen and @PepperAnna for advice.

The moon in hair looks similar on the sculpture shown in this Wikipedia article about Selene.

Thanks for the help. I can't take credit for the "patina" though, it lamp belongs to my aging father.

Thank you for the input. I thought they were horns as well. Crescent moon makes a little more sense. Thanks again.

Everybody's right. Artemis/Diana is often indicated by a crescent moon on her brow, as a symbol of her aspect as goddess of the moon, Selene/Luna, the way her brother Apollo is often depicted with a radiance around him because one of his aspects is as Sol, the sun. If her eyes are closed, we might also see her as Nyx/Nox, the Night.

The 2 pointed ends of a crescent moon are known as the 'horns.'

She's a very art nouveau interpretation, not strictly abiding to conventions. I can't really tell from the pic what's going on around her face, but it reminds me of the way Medusa is often depicted with snakes tied under her chin, or Athena, the same thing with braids.
