Bucha Upjohn returned my call this evening - he is an incredible man!
He told me he would be here in Miami (where I live) for Art Basil next month, and he would make up the paper work for the painting that it is an original and he is the artist of it.
AND when I explained that I buy storage units at auction and hunt thrift stores to find things I can resell to help support Joy's House (a sober house for girls I opened in my daughter's memory that went for 8 years until plumbing & roof issues happened after hurricane Irma (insurance finally paid plumbing claim after 22 months but my attorneys are still fighting for roof repair claim) - he told me that the painting was worth $10,000 and I shouldn't accept anything under $8,500 - and that maybe he'd be able to put it in his show at Art Basil and see if it would sell to help me pay for the roof until insurance repaid me!!
He is going to look up his records (it was painted in 2004) for the COA and also thinks there are several of his regular customers who would be interested in buying it - especially when they heard it was going to help Joy's House!
How is that for a good person?

 

That’s wonderful news and hope it sells. Art Basel (an extension of the Swiss show) is fabulous. IMO it’s the most important contemporary art fair in the US. Always the first week of Dec-in Miami every other year.

This thread made my day! You took a chance with good money spent and the rewards are in abundance! Great job all the way around. The artist is a fine example of unexpected kindness.

 

He is definitely what we need more of in this world.

 

I had an offer for the painting on eBay but they asked if I had a COA so I text Mr Upjohn yesterday asking for it again, and he just called me & made sure it went through this time. He also said he was coming down in Dec. and we should meet this time (not sure what happened last year with covid (I think it was when my dad had it so I didn't go to art basil, or maybe he canceled because of covid - I honestly don't remember - but will hopefully meet him in December!)
Here is the official - finally - COA for my painting entitled "Damsel with Apple"
I can't thank him enough for all he's done trying to & finally locating it and then sending it multiple times until I received it.
And thanks for all your help with these pieces and all the other ones I ask for help with; you guys on this forum are the best!

 

Final update - less than 1 day(!) after adding the COA to the Upjohn painting's eBay posting I accepted an offer of $2,300!!

Thanks - the cool thing is Friday I got a quote of $2,750 to repair my roof; I had planned on getting a 1 yr loan but the painting sold 48 hours later & after eBay fees etc. I'm left with around $2,800!
Almost the exact cost of the repairs!

The house was a sober house for women I opened in my daughter's memory for 8 years & I used to tell them that in recovery when you see God's hand in your life that's a God shot; better than any shot of liquor you ever had!
