Not to mention the thing that looks like a guitar pick? The charm bracelet is easy - keep it! Those things are someone's life story, or a decent chunk thereof. And it happens to be a family story. I saw jade, amethyst, smoky quartz etc in the rings. I'd be wearing those if they fit. :):):)

The guitar pick thing is a fairly large piece with both brooch and pendant attachments on the back and my favourite. Yes, jade, smoky quartz (60s cocktail ring), turquoise, diamonds and an emerald. My mother had thinner fingers than I and I have a few rings of my own that I wear most of the time. She didn't like the charm bracelet, so I really don't have a problem with doing something else with it, selling, whatever. But I have 2 young granddaughters who might want something. :)

Researching the charms might prove interesting to them, for sure.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

A male friend of mine inherited a piece (ring, pin, or brooch) from either a grandmother or a great-grandmother. It had three small diamonds in it. He had the stones set into a ring for himself, and used to wear it often. Don't know if he still does. We live far apart now and mostly communicate through Facebook.

I am loving the jade earrings, the smoky quartz ring, the amethyst ring, and the wedding set. Let us know what you decide to part with....your granddaughters will treasure this beautiful jewelry.

My mother's good jewelry was stolen by family members with addiction issues. My dad didn't wear jewelry, but he loved one pair of goofus jockey cufflinks, gone, too. I do have my paternal grandmother's art deco platinum lavender star sapphire and diamond ring- nobody wanted it because they thought it was ugly.

Yes, I will come back to this hread and update, but beware, I am a professional procrastinator! My granddaughters are still kids, so I will wait until they're older to give them some of the jewelry. I loaned my tiny diamond studs once to my youngest granddaughter and they've not returned, so I think they are hers now if they aren't lost! My parents gave them to me for my 21st bday. :cat:

I am sorry that your mother's good jewelry was stolen. It is not an uncommon occurrence if someone in the family is an addict. :(

I gave my boys, cuff links & watches from my grandfather. They both consider them treasures. I have 4 more watches from him, one an eagle watch, so they will get one more and my 2 grandsons the others. So with some items I think they appreciate them.

I still have Grandma's bracelet. It's one of those pre-WWI gold-filled bangles, and she got it for her 18th birthday. Cold, dead fingers, shall we say. Those pieces have stories attached more valuable than the items themselves. Your dad's pieces are treasures.

which is why when Mom gave her gold charm bracelet to my daughter.... years ago.... and when I recently asked her about it and she couldn't remember getting it...and let's just say it was ' substantial '......... I kinda felt very disappointed ...

giving good stuff.....memory stuff...to one's grand kids....doesn't always work out the way one hopes it will !!!:sour:

Too true. I might have that bracelet in a shadowbox and mounted on the wall! Well away from windows of course.

I'd be showing it off right here......there were all manner of 14 K charms on it....even a watch fob seal.....and a parachute with a dangling heart.....so much going on.......
    sigh..
