I just bought several hundred pieces of good pottery from an estate - including a piece of newcomb! There was also sec/pvp - teco - hampshire - just to mention a few… I also found a lot of southern pottery in the collection - north state - school of mines - etc - here is a fab stoneware piece that I need help identifying the mark - It is signed 3 times - advanced thanx for any help! I am also adding a few pics of just the tip of the pieces in the collection for your viewing pleasure… F56FACA7-7505-4041-9136-5645342C76C4.jpeg CE963337-7895-400A-9964-541CDDC5BA78.jpeg

? no - when I tried to add larger photos the site rejected them and said they had to be less than a single mg - you can stretch the photos with your fingers

I think there is close to 300 pieces in the collection - I am just starting to tackle the task at hand and I have only photographed and handful of pieces this morning - but here is a glimpse... the newcomb piece was thrown by Joseph Meyer and decorated by Alma Mason - a finger loop candlestick - it has the Q clay mark which means it dates from 1895-1909 - if anyone knows what the blue mark means I would greatly appreciate the insight - it looks like it might be BYG ? new.JPG

for those whom would be interested the BYG mark on the newcomb candlestick was BY6 which is a date stamp for 1916 - I have already parted ways with it - I got about $1900 for it

Good job on the Newcomb. Will love to hear any more pottery brands that sell for good money. I can't get much more than $45 for anything ceramic, no matter where I try to sell it. What was your venue please? :)

ok - so here is the story - a good friend of mine is a realtor - she calls me and says HELP - 3 men gay men were living together - a couple who were advanced pottery collectors - and thier best friend - they have lived together for over 32 years - both guys in the couple passed within 6 months of each other and the 3rd inherited everything... the house is HUGE with 3 different buildings on the property and it was just too much for him alone so he has decided to sell and my realtor friend is his agent... every surface in the house was covered in pottery and she just told him he has to do something as she cant show the house that way.... it took me 3 seperate full days to box up all the pottery and get it out - he set the price to "get rid of it" at $2000 - I was obviously very content with the set price....

I haven't even tried to sell much of it - I have posted about a dozen pieces or so just to get my money back - I sold the Newcomb - I sold the teco for $345 - I sold the Haegar Geranium for $155 - I sold a rookwood for $245 - I sold a camark for $145 - I sold a grueby tile for $127 - I sold a carved UND pot for $175 - and I sold a Mosaic Tile for $79 - so I have already made all the money back plus made a $1000 and I have nearly all the pottery still... I have a LOT of middle of the line pottery like McCoy - Red Wing - Zanesville - Weller - Roseville etc. - and I still have some higher end pieces like Rookwood - Van Briggle - Moorcroft etc. - I believe i still have over 300 pieces of pottery.....

I had a partner of 15 years who suddenly passed of pancreatic cancer - it was heartbreaking - his mother had a piece of Roseville that he loved - so I used to buy him Roseville for birthdays and such - I can;t bear to sell it so apparently I am a Roseville collector LOL - so I kept about 6 pieces of Roseville from the collection including the Futura Big Triangle Vase - the Futura Box vase - a low bowl in the Florentine pattern in which I already had a pair of gated vases to match - etc... I always thought I would stay single after that but 10 years ago I met my current partner who has the patience of a saint - I have our entire house covered in pottery and at least 40 boxes of pottery and not so much as a peep - (the guest bedroom is already filled to the ceiling in antiques and collectibles) I have owned several shops and was in 7 antique malls before the fall in 2008 - I am still trying to figure things out - the rents in antique malls down here is as high as having a shop - I honestly just don't know what to do with it all....

for the record I am glass person by trade - I have dealt highend glass all my life - mostly American - Steuben (the old colored stuff) - Pairpoint - etc and before the fall I also did a lot with the elegant and eapg stuff which nobody cares about anymore....

sooooooo - thats my story - and I'm sticking to it :O)

Condolences for the passing of your partner :sorry:

Congratulations on making your money back with still a lot left to sell, it makes all us sellers feel like we can also find a honey hole!

oppps - the BY6 mark is the date stamp on the Newcomb for 1906 - NOT 1916...
