This is 6 1/2 inches square, heavy for its size at almost 5 pounds. Has a 60s 70s vibe to me, especially with that color.
Google image search wants it to be an ashtray, but no really close matches. I at first thought ashtray, but it wouldn't really work to rest a cigarette, and the recesses in the center would be really hard to clean if you put out a cigarette in them. The recesses are about as wide as a pencil, and 3/4 inch deep.
    I am stumped. Thanks!

Could it be a flower frog?

Would be very hard to clean out the holes after snuffing butts out in them.
Could be flower frog, but I don't see how any stems would stand up in these short holes.

Hold soap, sponge or brillo pad?

I also wondered about soap, but it is way too big to have on the side of a sink.

Good idea. I do think it would have slots on the side edge for the pipe stem to rest in, if it was intended as a pipe ashtray.

I personally don't think 3/4" is too short to hold up a flower with a robust stem. Especially if cut shorter.
