Unsigned and Undated Oil Painting

Helle Everyone!

I hope everyone is doing fine. I have a painting I got from an old friend. I'm wondering if I can sell it if it worth something.

It's undated and unsigned, im guessing it is an impressionism and painted somewhere on italian landscape. Any idea on this would be greatly appreciated!

Souvenir of Somewhere, looks like. The buildings don't look Geman or Swiss, so Italian is probably a good guess.

 

Not too many mountain ranges of that height in Europe. The Alps, the Dolomites, the Pyrenees.

Odd the frame doesn't fit the canvas. Appears a stream disappeared in the framing. Are those signature initials on the left? You might want to take it out of the frame.

Looks like canvas mounted on board. The canvas might be older than the mounting board, especially since it doesn't appear to fit the board. OP, I suggest you see if you can narrow down the age of the frame and board.

Check to see if the outside edge of the canvas is smooth. If it appears to be cut unevenly, the canvas may have originally been mounted on stretchers.

Edit: I see an uneven cut on the right side of the exposed canvas edge in your verso view. This painting may have originally been mounted on stretchers. Suggest you carefully remove the board and examine the other edges.

 

Although it is influenced by Impressionism, I think it was painted after the Impressionist period. My guess is 1920s-30s, but I may have to be corrected.

Myryl, just to get an idea, where is your friend from or where was the painting acquired?
As you said, the subject could be Italian (Dolomites), but that type of church and the house-roof ratio is also found in Slovenia (Alps) and Montenegro (several impressive mountain massives).
If you find those two mountains, the one on the left has a very specific shape, you'll come closer to the location.
