Had painted octagonal tray with Angel

I really like this octagonal sided wood tray. It's obviously hand-painted and I was surprised to see that because I thought it would be some kind of decal.

This is the first time I've been able to reduce my Android photos to post on here because of the need to reduce them. I had to find a separate app to do that which was completely non-intuitive. So I used a YouTube video to understand how it was done. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out.

On the back it's signed JP 98.

Does anyone recognize this artist or signature?

There's also a slight line, one that looks like a scratch with something dark. It's hair thin over the face. I was able to take off the price tag that they put right on the front of the tray without any solvents or without using a warm iron. So maybe there's some kind of shellac over it which might make it more tolerable of some kind of light cleaning. This is such an important part of the picture I'm not going to take any chances.

Maybe IS instead of JP? It could be a charming hobby piece.

I see TS or JS if it matters.

 

I know it's not hers, but it reminds me of the Mary Engelbreit period.

 

It's dated 1998, but the style is more 1988.
