    hi folks

something i bought at a local auction at the weekend for about £6 and fees

sold as a buddha, but seen a few on here before as krishna

krishna seems to be a heavy metal fan as hes rocking the devil horn hand positions:):):):):):):);)

    solid brass, measures 10 inches

hard to guestimate an age for him, can see areas that suggest handling, but unsure

    any thoughts appreciated

Possible it is missing a flute or some kind of wind instrument? That's what the hand positions remind me of.

Seems like could be a newer or vintage piece versus antique, but wait for others.

The stance is typical of Krishna, although he should be holding a flute. He does not look like recent Dhokra work, but I can't say where else in India he might have been made, or anything about his age. He is quite simple. And it looks like the stand may be weighted, which would account for some of the heft.

Thanks for the info tmb. Brass is a hard one to date. I thought maybe 60s/70s
The base is weighted with lead I think, would need to be weighted to keep it from falling over I guess

A charming Indian folk piece of Krishna playing flute. Missing the flute, which he clearly did have.
A statue like this would probably have been together with one of Radha, Krishnas consort and manifestation of the supreme Goddess.
