The year 1881 can be seen on the back. Anybody? Thanks.

Could you perhaps take a picture of the gentleman with a light facing AT his face?

    I've lightened it.

It looks more Soviet than Asian.

How about Felix Dzerzhinsky in his latter years.

If he is Asian, he is of a type seen in Indonesia, with those big round eyes. Most Asians with broad noses have smaller eyes, and not as round.
True, but from what I can see of the collar and bow 1881 could be the date as well.
Different nose, eyebrows, and the eyes are bigger on Rin's statue. As we get older our eyes become smaller.
Now you've got me humming the Russian anthem.

Eyes remain the same size from being about 12 years old into old age, the skin might sag but the eyes don't.
It might not be him, but not all artists get it right.

I can't see him as Asian at all. Think Greg is closer:

I don't see Napoleon III - he had a much more aquiline nose, and kept his hair:

The bronze gives me the feeling of some South American dictator - or some Spanish colonial figure - but I don't know their history well enough. He certainly has a distinctive nose.

    Height: 15cm. Weight: 1.370kg.
    Signed: L. Liers 1881

Dzerzhinsky and Napoleon III had more hair.

I still think it's Asian but I seem to be the only one. Maybe there is something wrong with my eyes.

The seller doesn't have a clue, I've asked. Some people seem to know what it is because the latest offer is €40 + postage. Or maybe they don't but the signature is ringing a bell.

Is it signed L. Liers? Surely that is a Flemish name, could the sitter be Belgian?

Rin, do you recognize the medals? That could be a starting point. @kristiaan maybe?

A general, back then, would have never ever had such "long" hair. It is the correct period if 1881 stands for the year 1881.

No, I don't. It's not that clear but it doesn't look like they are Belgian.

What made you think it was Asian? I don't see a resemblance to either Ho Chi Minh nor Chang Kai Shek who would have been famous enough for a statue. The longish hair makes me agree that it's 1800s. WIsh those medals were clear

Ho Chi Minh and Chang Kai Shek were the first I checked out but had to rule out immediately. I've also thought it might be American, as in South or Central-America. But I'm clearly also the only one.

It's too late now it seems. Can't find it back to see if the seller was willing to mail me a clearer picture of the medals.

I'm still convinced that people who know who he is would recognize him immediately.

Anyway, somebody made a sale without knowing what he sold and somebody bought it knowing who he is.
