Featured Anyone recognize this dinosaur looking thing?

How is everyone? I hope all is well. Got this weird looking thing and can’t make heads or tails of it.

approx 2.5” tall Looks like a dinosaur to me.

it's lost a head !

 

Maybe it was a cover for a button or a hat ornament. To cover a fabric knot perhaps.

 

It's missing the original attaching hardware which was in the center of the piece. It is also missing the replacement hinge and pin pieces which replaced the broken center piece.

 

The two heads are next to each other, one a bit behind the other (sideview).
The two together look a bit like a dinosaur head.

Hello? Animal Control? Hello? Ah, yes, there's a bird in my back yard -- hard to tell if it has two skinny heads like storks, or just one head but like an alligator's -- but it has a back like a giant tortoise, and legs like a fullback, and I was wondering... hello? Hello?

 

Perhaps it's a depiction of a pterodactyl and it appears to be going after the egg (jewel) to the left. Perhaps it's a Harry Potter creature that escaped?

 

That’s funny and quite possibly true. Lol

 

I put the photo into an editing program so I could get a better look, trying to refocus my eyes to see other possibilities, but in the end could only see a single, very strange, beast with one head.

I find the whole thing very strange. The cannetille support with the etched twisted ribbon frame make an odd combo. The single gem, which the beast seems to be pursuing, rather like Chinese dragons with their pearls. Is the color of the stone meaningful? (And what color is it, anyway, purple?) I don't recognize it as a heraldic creature, but my knowledge in that area is limited. My sense is that it was made for some specific family or organization.

 

It’s purple. This is strange for sure. I’ve yet to find anything like it

Even though it has feathered wings, would suspect, with its reptilian head, scaly back, sturdy legs and pointy tail, that perhaps it's supposed to be a wyvern...

closest I'm seeing is possibly an archaeopteryx but considering artist interpretation it could be most anything...
