Think that's the traditional costume of Pont-Aven in Brittany.

It's a charming work. And looks more like a portrait than a genre scene.

Yeah I agree deb, don't think it's a novice work, there's technique there zooming in

Portraits are probably a harder sell than genre pieces I reckon

It's a little wind instrument. Probably traditional to where she's from.

Pennywhistle? Something of the sort anyway. For five pounds I'd say that's a win.

    Don't think it's terribly old -- mid-century-ish -- but charming.

Artist captured the excitement in her face of having a painting done of her!

Got itchy art Fingers and bought this on ebay (haven't received yet)

Wondering your thoughts Deb, artist is unknown from searching him

Is it a copy of something ?

I like it and the style, but the back worries me a bit, with the staples etc

Was only £20 so no big deal

Does the frame look mid century ?

That stretching job is so amateur and just....painful. I don't think I've ever seen one that crazy. :nailbiting: I'd say not terribly old based on the back and frame style. 70s latest?

One of those screw your eyes up a bit and it works

Those fore figures totally work like that with broad brush strokes

You should be able to (roughly) date it from the postal code. But, yeah, I would think frame mid-century and, as above, 1970s at the latest. Artist has an older hand and certainly knew what he wanted to accomplish.
