I believe this is a Halley's comet pin, with a saphiret stone. What do you all think? I've not had a saphiret before, and did not at first recognize it. Very excited to have found this, but need confirmation, please. Came out of a misc junk bag at an estate sale. Not marked, tests 10K. Small and delicate, a little over 1 inch long.

I have serious envy here. Agreed on both.

Thanks OBB. It just kind of slowly dawned on me that this was saphiret. Never seen one in person.

Unreal in a junk bag! Your lucky day. Looks super, super promising and a great find.

Does the stone actually switch on and off to mocha brown when you tilt it in good light? I'm only asking because I do see the blue and brown look to yours-- but wondered if the brown-like color was coming through from the back, reflecting off of the gold. If it has that effect where you can make it "look more brown" by tilting the angle, definitely a saphiret. And these older ones are highly collected.

I still have a few photos from my best ever Saphiret find. At times I regret having sold it, but it went to Japan for $450, and theoretically I'm in the resale business, so at the time was thrilled with the sale. Only later realized how rare these old ones are. Had and early repair on one replaced Saphiret, but didn't seem to impact the auction.

I'm not a pin/brooch guy, but if I found that - I'd wear it! Very cool piece!

The mocha flashes in and out as it is tilted, seems to be moving around in the stone.
    That cross is lovely.

In the same junk bag the gold pendant and gold cufflinks on the left side of the photo below. From the same sale, not in a junk bag, Trifari sterling dress clip - has stone issues, Krementz GF pin with I think real opals, and a sweet little pin with opaline glass cabochon.

And also from the same sale, bakelite bangles, fun copper pins, and a gold filled bracelet, needs a clasp and I don't have the key for the heart, still lovely.

But you have the key to my heart with that Haley's Comet pin. Saphiret for sure. SCORE!!! :singing:

Looks like a sale with some high quality pieces. You really came home with some great items.

And congrats on finding your first Saphiret!

I actually went to the sale for some advertising tins. Imagine my joy when I walked in to see a dining room table covered with jewelry, not even mentioned in the sale write-up and not photographed, so nobody serious there for the jewelry. I pretty much had the whole thing to myself, which is rare where I am. Any sales with advertised jewelry attract a crowd.

Had that happen about three times in 18 years. The stuff daydreams are made of.

    Along with Victorian sapphiret.

That Trifari piece looks like it’s a fur clip. A dress clip has a wide hinged back, a fur clip has two pin stems on the hinged mechanism. It’s hard see see from your photo but I think I see a pin stem.
