11-14 on the back might mean November 1914.

Is that painted on a board? I've never seen a painting constructed like this. The way the back is framed as a support, but there actually is no frame.

Since I don't know anything about it, I am just going to watch the thread and see what happens.:chicken::watching:

Have you checked the nails? Check the shanks for a clue. Nails as clues to age (realorrepro.com)

Did you date any kerf marks (assuming not sanded down)? Adze, Axe, or Saw Cut Marks on Lumber Indicate Building Age & Wood Cutting Methods (inspectapedia.com)

Scroll down to the "Saw Kerf Marks in Wood Cuts" section. If your painting is from around 1814, you may see manual pit saw kerf marks. If it's 1914, you may see circular saw kerf marks.

The stretchers appear fairly crudely-made. What are their dimensions? If about 1.5"x3.5" or 1" x 3.5" they could be made from dimensional lumber. Then you may date further by determining the exact dimensions. No keys as far as I can see.

That doesn't appear to be the work of a trained artist.

LKNG 4 SIGNAT-1-gigapixel-lines-scale-3_00x.jpg I straightened it up so I could look carefully......then took that very dark lower left corner to try and see if there was any signature..... couldn't come up with anything significant....maybe a couple of letters that were probably under-painted....BWDIK!!! "Possibbly" 'A Lasli'....and then no clue.....

Amateur for sure, so likely will not find artist. I see no signs that this is from 1814.

No, much too early. Interesting that left of painting is much more successful than right. Perhaps show much more interest in nature than architecture.

Very interesting yes. I didn’t see that before and now it’s so clear. Now it looks like halves of 2 different paintings. Great observation

I'd think tree influenced a tad by German Romanticism.

I don’t know why people don’t put the size of things they take the trouble to post. My guess is that the canvas is 11”x14”, which would explain the marks on the stretcher.

It looks like they were painting from a photograph or similar. Hang it if you like it, but you may never find out whodunnit unless they once owned the house or something. If the house dates to about 1900 and you really want to know, see if the town tax records go that far back. You could get lucky.
