Featured How old is this lamp? Edision-style

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    The numbers written on the inside appear to be written in an older style. That's all I can tell. And may be wrong about that.

    That looks like one of those lightning lamps.The name escapes me. Electrostatic maybe? Looks like it has some age ,maybe 1900 give or take a few years.

    If it does unscrew, don't pop it into a modern lamp and try and test it. Many an antique bulb have been fried this way.

    A pic of the bottom would be nice.

    The base itself looks early and I've seen several such bases with no switch . . . 1880-95. One would have to see it's internal parts to I.D. There were quite a few socket types and bulb fittings at this time - standardization came during the 1890's. During this formative period, Edison's DC (direct current) system dominated the market and his "Bergmann" socket was the prototypical design.
    The first real challenge to Edison's hegemony came with the inauguration of Westinghouse's AC (alternating current) system in 1886. The Thompson-Houston Co., a supplier to Westinghouse, introduced the seminal socket for AC, which featured a distinctive cylindrical shell design.

    According to the following, a 7 over 6 Mazda bulb dates from the 1910 - 1919 period. Info is at 3:50 on the video. Your lamp has 7 arms at the bottom and will need more investigation. Also, it looks like it may not have a screw base. Do not force it!!!
