Old broken pot

And this guy: Is this pot identifiable to any tradition / location / time period? It has, ahem, 'condition issues'. But maybe it's really, really old... ???




I found it in a store and a context with numerous other NA items, but who knows.

Older than dirt, looks like. Beyond that, no idea.

 

I think that it's encouraging that someone thought enough of it to reconstruct it. A lot of fire sign on it.

 

It's such a simple, un-decorated form that makes it harder to guess than something more decorative. It looks honestly old to me and looks like it may be shell tempered. That's all I've got.

A good tight close-up of the ceramic wall where the hole is might help to tell if it is shell-tempered.

 

I'm not an expert in this. However, when I see a hole in the bowl like yours, I think of southwest pottery removed from ancient graves. Google "kill hole" pottery and you'll find more about that. Yours is off-center, so the hole in yours may just be damage.

This hole, being kinda irregular and in light of the other damage, might only be a piece lost when the bowl was broken.
