I'm hoping this is real jade! Marked PC and 14K on the back. Any idea who made it?

    Thanks!

Good shot! To my eyes, this is real jadeite jade:)
Though the pics aren't very crisp to see the internal texture, I can say it is neither glass, neither aventurine, and not dyed quartz:cyclops:
    Sorry, I can't help for the maker's mark...:shy:

    Kyratango,

Thanks for the info! I am assuming that jadeite jade is a good thing?

I think I just read it’s the hardest gemstone. Is that correct? Diamonds are pretty hard so idk. Also hard to break/tough in a way different from just being hard. Something about how it’s structured.

They used to make tools out of jade, so it's pretty tough stuff.

Even if from a commercial site, this pic is useful for judging quality of usual encountered jadeite:

It has a very high density, which is why it is impossible to scratch with a knife.
The Mohs hardness of jadeite jade is 6.5-7, about the same as that of quartz and agate, and below that of precious gems. Diamonds have a hardness of 10.

This necklace is wonderful! I would scream if I found this!
    But it needs some TLC....restringing!

I knew the Chinese used to Jade for some tools. I was just watching a YouTube video that some professor made On pacific northwest coast Indian artifacts in his collection and there were even some northwest coast Indian Jade tools he showed. There was a specific river in that general region that was heavy on Jade and the tribe that lived there traded it around the region.

That makes sense I assume they were referring to non-precious gemstones. Wherever it was that I read that.

I have a New Zealand Maori jade 'Mere' war club, which I could do some serious damage with, without leaving even a scratch on the Mere itself.
