    Yes an unfinished illustration sketch.
    The face is well executed.

    I don't know if it's unfinished or meant to be that way ?
    With the face like that, it's very powerful.

    I like the " Property of R D Strait " , ....i don't think it's his anymore !!;)

    I change frames on my paintings so I would never imagine anything written on a frame is necessarily associated with the picture. It looks like the Concord Minuteman to me. Or Johnny Tremaine.

    Are those initials under the cannon? I'll bet it was painted for the Bicentennial in 1976.

    That's a Tri-corner hat so more like the Revolution and my first thought was 70s in style so in would agree Bicentennial.
