Featured Mystery silver plaques. Belt?

What do you reckon these are? White metal which I suspect is silver. Belt panels? They're about an inch and a half square.

No wear on them, it's the light.

 

That would be my guess too. And beautiful Art Nouveau.
Maybe panels to be sewn on a velvet belt, Medieval/Renaissance style?

 

Aren't they nice. I've just had a squint and I think someone may have cut them apart. There's a rough bit, if you can see it? But only on one side. Maybe a sort of foldover link.

Oopsss. You can still do something nice with them though, they have an elegant look as they are.
On the last photo you can see an EPNS mark, so now you know what they are made of. Many UK belt parts were EPNS, makes sense. Silver prices were pretty high in those days.

 

You can see on yours, OBB, where back has probably been cut off....still very cool!!!!!!!!!

Hah, belt buckles indeed. Wonder why someone went to the trouble of hacking. I'm now staring at the hacked bit with a loupe, trying to see the substrate metal.
