Good morning, I’m new to this site and trying to navigate the forum. I was given some miniature silver stamped farm tools by my late grandmother many years ago. I am hoping someone can help me identify how old they may be and where they came from. They are stamped with J.S & S with a big S below, but not like any of the marks I’ve seen on the internet. I posted 2 pics on the site.
WELCOME Denise!! Just posting your images FULL size, which you too can, if, JUST before you hit "Post" or 'Reply' you click on the very TOP image that says to "Insert every image as a FULL image"..... AND can you give us an idea what size 'miniature' might be?? Thanks!
The smallest piece is 3” and the longest is 7”. There is also a star-shaped plow that measures 4.5x4.5.
Hmmm, puts me at a loss.....Salesman's samples were usually finely made of wood & steel, as far as I've seen and remember!!! Others will chime in though!!!! They ARE very neat!!!!
Salesman samples! Neat! They were given to me when I was very young for helping clear my grandmother’s friends house. I’m 56 now and they were old then, so I imagine they must be 70+years..
Any- Silver, definitely a tad large for a Charm Bracelet ! Would these have been used for a shop window display,or part of a sign ? Very unique (as least to me).
I think for personal display, maybe in a small display case on the desk of a farm equipment manufacturer or a rich farmer. To me too. I've seen smaller Dutch silver miniatures of some of these, but never this size. 19th Century is possible, but we need to find the maker first, who is likely to be American. @Bakersgma ?
I can't find this mark for Joseph Sankey and Sons. If it is by them and it has no UK assay marks, it is probably silverplate. Is there a US maker with this mark?
I have been unable to find any mark like this from either the US or Norway. In both cases, the mark here, if from the early 1900s, would have borne either the word or decimal for solid silver fineness - 925 for sterling or likely a lower number for Norway.
