Oil Painting Signature Help

Need some help reading the signature. Thanks.

 

I suspect that's a decorative painting. Have you done a Google Images search to see if you can find a match? And would/could you post a photograph of the back including frame?

Hi @dsyautonomaly, I don't think I made the signature any clearer by isolating it and changing the color............looks like it "COULD" be CB?rchemen....just not positive it's even English.....I LOVE the scene though and think it's nicely done!!!!

Well, the 2-digit postal code tells us the framing was pre-1963. A quick internet search tells us the framer, Speedy of Houston, was established in 1946. So that's your framing window: 1946-1963. The painting is likely contemporary to the frame so you'll first want to explore Texan artists who were active between those years.

Here's the framer in 1952, advertising in an Art League of Houston's 5th Annual Art Fair program. May be a bit early for your painting (to my eye the frame looks 1960s) but -- long shot -- you might want to scan the list of participating artists to see if any name appears to be close to the signature on your painting.

I read Barchensen, which is an actual name.
Not sure how that would help though, since it is not a well-known painter.

 

Does look like "Barchensen" but FamilySearch.org doesn't come up with anyone with that surname in the US. It also looks like the artist has incorporated his first initial "L" of his given name into the first initial of his surname "B"."
