It’s time for more things to be off to new homes via auction:(
These two rings I think may be Georgian but please tell me if I’m incorrect.
The unmarked one with the turquoise has a glass compartment at the back.
The other one, no idea what the ‘ruby’ stone is and the other stones which I think are glass have gone green underneath. I didn’t want to mess with them to clean it. Is this usual and due to copper in the silver or the glue used?
    Thanks.

    Beautiful, House.
The first one looks Georgian to me.
The second one isn't Gerogian, because the stone is open-backed.
I also think the 9ct-sil mark is later than Georgian, but one of your fellow Brits may have to correct me on that. A gold ring with silver setting for the stones was still used in the early 20th century.
The open back is a tell-tale sign though.

They are both Victorian imo, the turquoise one is earlier and perhaps as far back as mid 19th, the shape crops up fairly regularly in the UK and I've had them with hallmarks from the 1870's and 1880's. The second one - 9ct & Sil is typical of late Victorian into the Edwardian. Is the back of the clear stones open in the halo ring? If so you may just find it is something which has got underneath and you can clean out. Otherwise you may find it hard to get rid of, ultrasonics is risky for an old ring like this and may ruin it.

Here's a turquoise one similar to yours in our collection:

Thanks AJ and Ce BCA. The second ones clear stones backs (with the green underneath) are closed in, I’m hoping the Auctioneer can test and tell me what the red stone is but I suspect it’s glass too.
I thought the first one was Georgian because of the split shank and the tiny glass compartment at the back but realise the Victorians did this too.
Whoever buys them will I hope know how to clean the green off and replace the tiny missing turquoise on the first one.

Yes, the one in my pic has the same back but there isn't any glass. The split shank can be a bit earlier which is why I suspect it may be mid 19th rather than late 19th. Have you checked the gold, these turquoise ones are often 18ct and sometimes 22ct rather than 9ct.

Thanks Charlie, I hadn’t thought to do that, I’m away from home at the moment so I’ll do it asap.

I haven’t checked the gold, I’ve only got 9ct acid at home. I doubt they will do that at theAuction house. I’ve got to drop it off on Wednesday so no time to get any acid. Hopefully prospective buyers will think it’s higher than 9.

That 9 ct SIL mark is later, post WW1.

The other may well be Georgian. The hallmarked ones are later copies.

I wouldn't sell it as one lot, given the different periods. There are different buyers/collectors for the two. Buyers for the older one especially, could be put off by having to buy the other one too.
Plus you could probably get more if you sell them separately.;)

Aah, it’s glass, as are the surrounding little ones but I did find another one on one of the rings that did fluoresce so I’ll post it when I get back home again as it’s weird.

She’s told me they don’t get much for single rings. I’ve accepted her opinion, even the little turquoise, seed Pearl one she said likely wouldn’t do much more than £150 but she did agree to let it go as a single lot. They have to go so I’ll see what happens.

Probably being conservative due to the missing turquoise gem and is the green one perhaps a replacement? Should still top £200 though

Let you know how they go. My best piece is a G Nardi 18ct ruby gondola brooch, one ruby is missing though:(

The little turquoise and seed Pearl ring with the back glass panel failed to sell for £180 with discretion at auction today. In fact many of my lots didn’t sell and I’m so glad I had put a reserve on them and they didn’t get sold for peanuts. The last auction was really good, maybe the cost of everything is putting people off buying jewellery now. Im so happy to be getting most of the pretties home again though:) Getting the Nardi back too!
