Bakelite has cooled off since of course. Everything goes in cycles.

Now that I've started studying more in demand $$$ costume jewelry, some of it's quite spectacular & really good, but a lot (APOLOGIES-NO OFFENSE MEANT,i mean if you can make a buck without having to shell out a Mil on Medical School -primo !),let me reiterate-no offense,it's just that a lot (NOT ALL) Costume Jewelry has always looked like crap to me...course most old & new things look like crap-art,architecture,music,movies,etc.
My taste or not-if you can sell a piece of Costume for $300 to a grand, why not ?
If somebody gave me a monthly retainer to hunt down Pokemon Beanie Babies, prob be way more fun than bagging groceries. No offense meant to the brave retail workers who had to work 'Customer Service' (ie:eat s*#@ ) during Covid.

Some costume sells for way more than precious, it's in the design.

I've been to that Petaluma shop.

Yep-Seems like the more 'gonzo' over the top costume looks the more $$$-like something from a Tim Burton or Cecil B Demile movie, like a striking movie prop.
Is that shop still in Petaluma ?

Yes, you are absolutely correct. I remember giving my daughter in law a victorian era bohemian garnet and gold bracelet I managed to pick up as costume (figured it didn't cost me squat). I have yet to ever see it on her wrist. I am still salty about that, imagine me thinking she would actually appreciate having something of quality.... grrrr

I offered my son an antique signet ring (I picked up for a song), he had no interest. At that point, I figured out, they are more interested in Instagram, video games and as noted, tiktok, than things made of quality and value. (well, I do have to include they all want a Tesla...lol)

I have all ideas that the craftmanship of the past will officially die with this generation.

Teslas, they are cool BUT-the waste and pollution involved with the battery production are not always so green !
We're in the process of selling or donating our sweet older items because when we kick the bucket,I don't think our kids will want any of it- Teslas,Big Trucks,Hot Tubs & Tik Tok.

NFT wise-seems like every time I open Google, the front page story is about a 12 year old who became a billionaire via TikTok or NFT or YouTube.I'm old so this 'Brave New World' seems a little inane to me (exactly what my folks thought of me when i was a hippie 50 yrs ago).
Always fighting back against the prejudices that come with 'Geezerhood'. My wife does remind me when I start doing my cranky old man act, that helps.

You nailed it Komo,12 year old billionaire stories (or the News),definitely not my 'happy place' right now.
Won't need a TV to figure out when the lid finally blows.
