I am new here and hope a generous expert on the forum can point me to some information about two pieces I recently acquired.

I don’t have much to go off of except one piece I’m told is French and the other early American. The French is the buffet, has no key. Interior shelf may not be original, but otherwise it seems all original. The wardrobe is painted and has a key and parts seem original.

Can anyone point me in the right direction towards information about the origin of each piece and potential value?

    best,
    Henry

We are more than the sum of our parts.

I am neither expert or generous but as u are new I will offer up comments and tips.

The wardrobe is very nice , and folks will want more pics of the back and interior along with measurements & anything you already know about the piece to...help us, to help you !

The 'buffet' looks to be small enuf to be a bedroom washstand piece , and reminds me of country furniture from the 80's.

    But those are just opinions....
To get the experts to look at your furniture I'd suggest that a MOD ( @daveydempsey ) move this thread to the Furniture Forum where the right eyes will see them.

As this is the Intro Forum....... let me just say Welcome !

    Thanks Komokwa!

I’ll be happy to add more photos and measurements to the right forum.

By “country furniture from the 80’s” — which country, and the 80s of which century do you have in mind?

the piece is certainly older than 40 years :)

    Thanks!

it may well be older.....as wash stands tend to be,
and I mean country ....as opposed to city !

Could be French, Belgian or Dutch. Sellers think French sounds better to buyers.;)
As komo said, these were fashionable in the 1980s, when antique furniture dealers scoured the European countryside for rural style furniture. The furniture was often traditionally painted or stained, but stripped to suit the fashion of the '80s.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Welcome to Antiquers, @Henry Waldman !

As komokwa said, for a better analysis more photos would be needed. Insides and sides, closeups, etc. And please post as Full Image in the future. This site defaults to Thumbnail, and as you are uploading there is a button to post as Full Image instead. Lots of people prefer that so they don't have to click to open the images.

Meanwhile, I am not an expert... just a welcomer on this one.

I would call the small piece a server, though it may be a base to a larger piece that is missing a top hutch. The construction of the top certainly lends creedence to this theory. I do think European. The wood is pine. It does seem to be old but really need more pics to determine such.

The wardrobe does appear to be an antique. I do not believe the paint to be original. I am unsure if it is American. Again, more pics are necessary to evaluate.

When providing additional pictures, be sure to include backs, drawer construction, interiors, and any hardware.

Agree with V.B. and A.J. re: the server. Pine, country, French or northwest European. Not a washstand.

I would say the wardrobe/armoire is German or made by craftsman of German descent in the U.S. I'd date it at about 1880. The crest is missing. The paint is "country chic" and, like Brad said, newer.

No idea where you are so its hard to assign a value. If you got $500 for both in my part of the U.S. that would be doing well.

I got a German vibe, but then decided the decoration was too 'amateur' to be German. So you and Brad could be right, painted more recently. Maybe by a former owner?
