Hi friends. These 4 posters were at the thrift yesterday, and I need to get a few more eyes on them.

I was thinking they were originals because of the way they are sort of "conserved" (for lack of a better word.) They look like something you would by at an antique print shop. They have an inner layer of white cardboard as a loose backing, and then behind that a pretty substantial thick cardboard piece, and the whole thing covered in clear plastic. When you consider they have some damage, seems like a lot of trouble to go to if they were newer.

I found one or two other H.C. Renwick posters online, including this one in the link. If anyone has a WP account, just curious what this sold for, but of course has the "football theme" so not exactly apples to oranges.

First, mine appear to be older, right? I couldn't find one other version online.

Also what would these have originally been used for? A 1910 dorm room? I think they are poster weight, but I don't want to remove them from the packaging.

Here are some photos. Actually the colors in real life are quite strong, remember they are under this layer of plastic:

Image is fairly large at 14"

You can see how someone has been storing them:

Looking for general thoughts. Older for sure? Not sure how I'd resell them, but it's cool to have the full set as a starting point.

Looks to be Harold C Renwick. Not a lot of info out there. From the condition I would guess them to be of the period. I don't imagine they are worth a lot, given the condition.

They may not be common, but the question is: who do they appeal to?

I wonder how they would be depicted in a modern treatment of the theme.

This is my question, too. As cool as they are I'm wondering if I can make money on them. I'd want to get at least $100 for the set of 4, ideally on Craigslist or similar so I wouldn't need to mess with oversized shipping.

This thrift has a return policy so I'm just keeping that in the back of my mind. Wanted to post right away to get thoughts.

    Thanks.

Also, any idea how would these have been used in 1910? Would they have been something for a private home?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Did you search eBay for H. C. Renwick items? I searched Google and one current eBay listing came up. It is on a completely different subject, though.

It is not my listing and I hope it's okay to post this link. Who knows if they would be able to sell it for the asking price? https://www.ebay.com/itm/224838618827

I have a subscription. Here is a clip of the obit. It gives useful information, if @Lucille.b wants to research him.

    Great info everyone. Thank you.

The one on Ebay does give sort of a sense of the most they might be worth since that one is unsold. I'm actually toying with the idea of returning them. Not that they aren't fabulous, but each one was $12, and the thrift (GW) accepts returns for 7 days.

I got these with resale in mind and had in the back of my head that I could return them if research didn't reveal some significant value. And I think it comes down to "what kind of person would these appeal to?" as mentioned. Ideally you'd need to offer to a large audience to find that person (like Ebay) but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble--mostly due to the size/shipping etc.

Going to give it a bit more thought, though.

The Princeton Club in NYC would love them, or Harvard, or Columbia.

Or the beer room at Sigma Phi! Etc.

I'd buy them myself, but they would have to surround my (Large) color print of Evelyn Nesbit (Apres le bain), and while I'm sure all parties would be delighted, that would necessitate my removing other prints to which I am deeply attached. There is only so much space available in my wren's nest!
