Featured Tara Lempicka signed print, what do people think of this?

this came up at auction a few months ago...

 

I think you mean Tamara de Lempicka? She was Polish, not Irish.

It is beautiful, but I don't know if there are repros etc. so can't help.

LOVE her work ! Madonna has a few.

 

Jack Nicholson has a collection as well. She's frequently deemed a Hollywood artist.

 

Madonna has even morphed into a Tamara de Lempicka painting.

 

And I adored her so in the 80s and 90s ! Now shes just !

 

well mystery deepens. I did not see any other versions of this work: Blue Scarf around. Only the original painting. So I became suspicious that it was some sort of knock off. The newer ones by her daughter are signed differently.

I still think the one I posted is some sort of knock off. The signature is pretty close to the artist's. Does it look like it was removed from another frame? you can sort of see a faded outline.

Nice going finding these new ones.

Going to check some other sources.

Do you know what kind of print it is? Serigraph, lithograph, giclee? Can you say what kind of print it is not? Is there a plate mark? Is it matted? Why is it oddly clipped on that one corner?

 

Kizette died in 2001, but the estate is still active. That site is live. They may still be producing Lempicka prints in limited editions.

If you expand it the print is not of good quality. It looks like they tried to give it a phony plate mark and make it look like an etching. I would guess something like an offset lithograph.

 

I don't know, but would not hold out much hope that this is more than 20 years old. The frame looks older, but even if it is, that doesn't necessarily mean the print is. I am not aware of multiples by Lempicka, and this is a reproduction of a painting. The Lempicka signature could be by whoever currently holds the name, it might just be a statement of identification. Apart from creating the source image, I doubt that Tamara de Lempicka had anything to do with this, but would be happy to be proved wrong.

The Invaluable link says it's a lithograph. Lithographs do not generate plate marks. The link also says "TBS Does not guarantee authenticity of stamps labels and or piece."

 

That one is a giclee print on canvas. The colours are more saturated, more like the painting, which is what I would expect.

 

how could you tell the plate mark looks suspicious? I'd be interested in your insight on that. thanks.

 

I think it was the Chagall work, no 18 in that auction that started to throw up red flags for me. the whole auction was very suspicious.

 

yeah that's kind of what clinched it for me. I have some other reference books which might say otherwise but googling it I did not see any other numbered versions of the Blue Scarf.

yOu're saying there are no numbered original versions of any of her works. I did not now that.

I thought it looked like it had been framed and then removed rather than trying to fake a plate mark as Lithographer suggests. But I dunno.
