I know there is a Cameo Q & A forum, but I couldn't see how to post to it, so if someone wants to move this fire away.
Found this awesome 9ct rose gold Cameo brooch at a flea market today for $2 NZ.
It has a c clasp, so presume it's Victorian or earlier, but if anyone can tell me how to date it and or tell me it's value, that'd be great.
I have heard that you can tell the date by the clothing, but you can only see the neckline which I would guess was earlier than Victorian.
Also, seems she has a Greek nose but not sure if it was copied in later periods.
    It's approx 47mm by 37mm.
Look forward to hearing your comments.
    Thanks in advance

Sorry, yes I thought I had done that but went back when I realised I hadn't. Yes, got to love flea markets and op shops - also got a sterling silver trumpet vase for $5

I do it all the time and have to go back and edit. Much easier to see the detail now :pompous:

Hi, Dory, what a great catch! You can't gauge by her clothing since she is not in the garb of the period when she was made. All that grapevine draped on & around her indicates that she is a maenad/bacchante, one of the female followers of the wine god Dionysus/Bacchus, so she's out of the mythical past.

A better clue to age are the findings, all the bits of hardware on the back. She is solidly Victorian, although I would say later 19th century rather than earlier. She does not have the overlong pin of her predecessors, which may have functioned as a simple form of safety device by running the tip of the pin into the fabric after fixing it in the clasp She does have an attachment loop for a guard chain.

Cut in helmet shell, Naples or Rome, probably set in England.

P.S. - You're always welcome to add cameos to CAMEOS: Show & Tell or Ask & Answer but there are many separate threads like this one. And who can blame you for wanting to show her off? There is sort of a sister thread, in case Cameo Signature Help Needed

I'd concur on the back age indicating late 19th.

This is my haul from the weekend - 2 markets, a second hand shop and numerous op shops (to my husband's dismay)! The trumpet vase is on the left KSW -
Harrison & Hipwood, Birmingham, 1909. The hair receiver on the right also Birmingham, 1921 but the makers mark is completely illegible. The willow pattern trio is early Hammersley and I can't find a single piece of it on Google, the other trio is Aynsley. The little crystalline glaze ginger jar does not appear to be Oriental as I first thought, it has the signature RR on the base. The Derby Posies lot - not my thing (I collect early Derby) - I'll onsell them to offset the cost of the things I bought to keep ;)

Thank you so much Bronwen, your amazing knowledge is gratefully received. All very interesting - so much to learn, so little time! The forum looks very interesting too, I'll post this and my other cameos on there some time.

[Begin fan girl moment] That moment when you think you see an attachment spot for a guard chain and it turns out @Bronwen has the same idea! Squee! [End fan girl moment]
