Featured Help identifying dragon statue?

  1. Hello! I recently bought a dragon statue from Jinju-si, South Korea and I haven't had any luck at all identifying really anything about it. All I know is it's a cobalt blue Korean-style dragon given the four toes but the maker's mark is tough to decipher... Any help with identifyinng how old it is or where it came from would be greatly appreciated! The photo with the maker's mark is edited to try to make it more visible. If you want/need any more pictures/info please let me know!

  2. I got an appraisal done and the appraiser said it has a Kutani style mark on it, but he can’t decipher it. He said his rough estimate is that it’s from 1900-1925! Starting to think the mark will not be translatable due to how shallow/worn it is.

  4. Just $12 so it may not be the most accurate, though the guy’s been appraising/auctioning antiques for 30+ years so i have faith. I’m tempted to take it to someone in Korea but idk much Korean pertaining to appraising and such…

I like it. Nice piece, aesthetically speaking, and regardless of any other value it may or may not have!

Maybe use coloured chalk to fill in the marks and try get a better read from them. The teeth are porcelain also? It is quite a decorative figure.

  7. The teeth are porcelain as well as the tongue! The tongue is really neat to me because it has a center line and arches up nicely in the mouth. The detail is really amazing!
I'll try to pick up some chalk after work and see if that helps any. I tried to draw what i can see in my photo app but i dont think it helps much. I think its cursive japanese… CC9F9736-6D64-4486-947B-F9F1E181CEA2.jpeg

  9. Not much to update on but i did find a character i hadnt really seen before, the smaller ones on the right allegedly translate to ‘ninth’ but with so little legible who knows how accurate that really is. The middle one on the left is really hard to make out. 55B1CB61-1628-4406-AAD7-6EA0EA39B487.jpeg 7F85DC75-B63F-43A8-A7D1-0497F08E3853.jpeg
