This pair of cast iron andirons was found this weekend at a yard sale. I’ve searched online but have had had no luck finding finding a matching set. In some ways they look very old but the numbers cast into some of the parts is creating some doubt in my mind. So, what do you think - old, or modern reproductions?

1910s-1920s, I'd think. Let's see what others think.

Those are not repro. Full stop.

Age is relative...but they were made to be...and were...used to hold logs in a fire place. Might easily be latter half 19th C. Many, if not most of them that survive this long are badly eroded and warped by fire, unlike yours.

I suspect they're American; if any of those square-head bolts or their nuts are loose, you could measure the thread diameter & pitch to confirm or deny my supposition.

They are Very Nice...and I wish I had found them. Good Work!

Wonderful - thank you! I like the Tudor roses, and an even happier with them being real antiques.

Purely a guess, but I wonder if they subcontracted, or sub-licensed the casting to other foundries. The OP's andirons has the same oval in the same position as the Chairish pair only it has "39" instead of "HOWES"

Great suggestion, as the fire dogs in the linked pages do appear to be a match. I can’t see the selling price for the Worthpoint ones but am shocked by the asking price for the Chairish ones, as I paid $20 for mine. Thank you!
