Always wondered how/if impressionism could work in pencil form

    Looks like it could/can

I hate to say it Charlie, but I don't see those as "impressionist."

All by van Gogh bakers ;)

Supposedly, his favourite tool was a carpenters pencil

Just because they were drawn by VanGogh does not make them impressionist, though.

Yeah I do agree and appreciate what you are saying, but the technique is somewhat in the middle

I've always loved van Gogh's work. Seeing some of his pieces in person was almost a spiritual experience for me.

Van Gogh is considered to have been a leader in the Post-Impressionist movement. Some of his work reflect his interest in Realism, the most famous example of which is:

Agree, van Gogh, and at the time more importantly Gauguin, were the main Post-Impressionist painters. Their work is much more pronounced than Impressionism. It was already moving towards Fauvism and even Expressionism.

When it comes to pencil or graphite, many true Impressionists made beautiful sketches, Degas, for instance.

A couple of the drawings reminded me of Kathe Kollwitz.

Her work is impressive and very emotive. She witnessed poverty and brought it to the attention of those willing to see. And world leaders should look at her WWI work before starting a war.

I just love the fact that it can still be conveyed in the simplest of forms

Hard to believe that there was a time when artists had to learn how to draw before they could pick up a paint brush!
