I recently purchased this and am curious as to how old it is. thumbnail (4).jpg thumbnail (3).jpg thumbnail (6).jpg thumbnail (2).jpg thumbnail (7).jpg thumbnail (5).jpg thumbnail.jpg
The pink sticker was on the inside of the top chest. It is an antique store now located in Edinburgh, England.

Edinburgh is in Scotland, but this requires a better response than that. The furniture types will be along eventually.

I don't know European-built furniture at all, but the back looks funny. The wood on the lower back looks replaced at the least.

I can't tell from the pictures if properly Georgian or a Victorian copy, but looks bicentennial anyway. Could use a good cleaning and waxing.

I was first to respond but my reply did not work.

I would call it a chest on stand, Edwardian.

    Edinburgh is in Scotland BTW.

Bruton is in Somerset, south west England

Is it enormously tall or is that a very small door?
I’m having an Alice in Wonderland moment trying to work out the scale :hilarious:

I am obviously a geographically challenged American. It’s about 60” tall.

The wood on the back is super dry.

This piece now lives over the pond in the state of Pennsylvania.

    Are those Queen Anne Legs?

Also: is it one piece, or does the top separate from the bottom?

"...trying to work out the scale"

Yup...weird perspective. A bit of vertigo?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Quick look....thinking Queen Anne Highboy, two pieces.....they frequently become separated, but yours looks like it goes together....looking at the back indicates some age..........BTW, some Highboys can run 70-72" !!!! @James Conrad please????

Looks fine for late eighteenth into early 19th to my eye. An Edwardian copy would have used an early sheet ply back not those planks. And I'd agree the bottom has had a later new back.

Someone overdid the French Polish. The Bruton sticker is pre 1995. That's when phone numbers had a 1 inserted to STD codes.

My furniture antique dealer and French polisher friend says its mid 18th century chest on stand.
The brass fittings have been replaced and the Lever lock is from around 1860.
The whole back has been replaced as the planks usually run the same way as the drawers.

You didn't overpay, you got a bargain.:)
Google Georgian chest on stand, and take into consideration that yours doesn't have the original fittings and lock, and you'll see that you certainly didn't overpay.
