Featured Silver dog brooch, stuck on breed and age

Picked this up, nicely made and very heavy for the size, cast in silver with glass eyes and simply marked Sterling - about 4cm high. It was totally black and gungy, have partly cleaned it. I can't quite work out the breed as it seems to have some competing features like suggesting quite furry on head and ears, or perhaps they're meant to be wrinkles. Also struggling with the age, it's not new and it's not antique but I'm flip flopping on period, thoughts?

 

1920s/30s clasp and hinge. Sterling was used widely as a mark then. I think bassett.

 

Many thanks, I was undecided between inter-war and for some reason I kept getting 70's vibes too. Bassett does seem likely, it was the amount of fur/wrinkles on the coat which seemed a lot for this breed.

Mmm, these were the two I was stuck between. It seems to have elements of both, what's the hybrid of the two cockasset !

 

I have managed to find three other examples since posting, the three people have dated them from antique to the 1990's, one says Spaniel, one says Basset and the other says Blood Hound........... so I guess it can be whichever you like the best.

I think perhaps the breed that in the U.S. is called an English Cocker Spaniel. This page linked below compares the one that is the American version, which we call Cocker Spaniel. You in the UK probably do the opposite with the names. The head shape and ears in the photos here both look similar to the object.

I'd call that dog a Chow Hound, aka a FeedMe.
